Escape the winter and warm the soul with a wellness retreat to Sasaab in Kenya.
As the summer feels like a distant memory and you prepare to return to your cocoon for the coming winter ahead, Farside Africa would like to invite you on a healing holiday combining wellness and the wilderness at the beautiful Sasaab on the boundary of the Samburu National Reserve.
As part of a longer tailor-made holiday, you will spend four days with Karina Walsh, one of Kenya’s top professional personal trainers & Pilates instructors, and Heather Cuthbert, a nutritional therapist & therapeutic.
Whilst Karina strengthens your body with Pilates classes in the dry riverbeds and runs with Samburu warriors in the wilderness, Heather will nourish it. Her custom designed cuisine is all organic, gluten-free and full of goodness. Not only will you enjoy her flavourful fresh food throughout your stay, but you will also be able to learn a trick or two about mindful nutrition as Heather hosts a cooking class & demonstration.
As well as restoring your body, time will be spent disconnecting from devices & reconnecting with nature by watching the wonderful wildlife that inhabits the area. Samburu in the Northern Frontier District is perhaps the most colourful, rugged and dramatic game viewing area in Kenya. Known for the rare Northern wildlife species not found in any other Kenyan parks; the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk and beisa oryx are exclusive to Samburu, but lion, leopard and cheetah are also commonly sighted. There is no shortage of birdlife with an abundance of over 400 species, and don’t forget the giant elephant herds that reside on the Ewaso River.
Sasaab is a stunning blend of Moroccan and Swahili style and each individual cottage is designed to offer majestic views of the landscape and a cooling retreat from the African heat. The airy rooms with four poster beds, enormous, open-air bathrooms and private plunge pools, make for a completely invigorating experience. Sasaab also has a main swimming pool, built on the hillside overlooking the river.
For an extra special experience you can spend a night or two fly-camping under mosquito net tents in the wilderness. This amazing trip starts with a 4–5 hour walk along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, taking in the sights, sounds and smells of this untamed and romantic part of Kenya.
Four days at Sasaab can be combined with a safari in the Mara before relaxing on the pristine beaches of the Kenyan coast. With our help, let us plan your feel-good break.
Currently there are set dates for the wellness retreat in January & May 2018 but we can also arrange exclusive retreats upon request (minimum eight people for four nights).
