A cycling safari combining adventure, wildlife and fabulous lakeside views. Explore the scenic landscapes of Malawi from the winding woodland trails of Zomba’s Plateau to the contrasting wet grassy marshlands in Liwonde’s National Park. Meander along the tranquil Shire River into the Cape Maclear Nature reserve and discover the gateway to Lake Malawi’s Domwe Island for a relaxing stay on the pristine island.

Day 1 – Blantyre – Zomba Plateau
Travel by road from Blantyre Airport to the base of the Zomba Forest Plateau. Time permitting explore the winding trails, viewpoints, streams and waterfalls overlooking Zomba. Enjoy a nights rest and prepare for tomorrows cycle.

Day 2 – Zomba – Liwonde N.P (South)
Cycle north for 5hrs around the Zomba Plateau passing Malosa Mountain towards the south entrance of Liwonde National Park. A wildlife oasis adjacent to the Shire River where lions have recently been introduced.
Total cycling distance of 66.7km.
Overnight at Liwonde Safari Camp.
Day 3 – Liwonde N.P (South) – Liwonde N.P (North)
Cycle north for 4hrs along the edge of the Liwonde N.P. across the Shire River to Mvuu Camp. Ideally located in the northern region of Liwonde, here guest can enjoy various activities from boating, walks, game drives and visits to a nearby village.
Total cycling distance of 50.1km.
Overnight at Mvuu Camp.
Day 4 – Liwonde N.P (North) – Mangochi, South Lake Malawi
Cycle north for 6hrs until you reach Lake Malawi and the lakeside resort of Nkopola, a picturesque fishing village perched amongst tropical vegetation and stunning beach views.
Total cycling distance of 80.6km
Overnight at Nkopola Lodge
Day 6 – Domwe Island
This morning you will be transferred across to Domwe Island, an isolated natural oasis of tropical vegetation and sandy clear blue waters. Enjoy water sports such as kayaking, snorkelling & swimming. In between all the activity you can relax in tranquil surroundings with shady and secluded hammocks and shimmering waters as the sun sets behind the distant mountains that make up the far side of the lake. End the day with a blissful sunset and a beach bbq.
Overnight Domwe Island.
Day 7 – Domwe island – Lilongwe
After breakfast you will take a boat back to Cape Maclear. From here you will be picked up and transferred back to Lilongwe where you can continue your holiday to explore East Africa or Mozambique.
