TransAfrica’s newest adventure is a 21-day trip in Mauritania giving you the opportunity to get to dive deep into this rarely visited location.
As you traverse the dunes of the world’s largest desert, you will be learning about Mauritania’s history and culture from trip leader Alberto Nicheli. Having been based in West Africa for over thirty years, Alberto’s experience of leading excursions is incomparable. As an expert in African Art, Alberto had an influential involvement in Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher’s book African Ceremonies which describes tribal rituals throughout Africa. Over the 21-days Alberto will share his extensive knowledge and open your eyes to Mauritania.
This trip will take its participants to ancient and iconic sights in this vast and beautiful country such as the impressive rock circles known as Guelb er Richat or “The Eye of Africa.” Starting your journey in the capital of Nouakchott, the planned itinerary weaves north along the coast before cutting into the heart of the country where you will explore traditional villages made up of adobe houses and see breathtaking scenery.
You may have seen Mauritania on your screens lately if you have watched the latest Grand Tour where Jeremy Clarkson and his team made an intrepid 1,000-mile journey across the Sahara.
