Can a holiday save your life?

Can a holiday save your life? image

Africa is well known for its beauty and wildlife, now a study conducted at Exeter University has found that spending time in nature has a robust effect on people's physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

A trip to Africa could improve your mental health and vitality and you can have the time of your life too!

It is well documented that taking time out to enjoy a walk or chill out in the countryside can have a positive effect on the way we feel, but this latest study shows that nature’s restorative value goes way beyond simply giving us a break.

The 20,000 people-strong study found that spending time with nature; lowers blood pressure, stress hormone levels, nervous system arousal, and anxiety levels, along with increasing immune system function, self-esteem and lifting your mood.

Many would agree that holidays offer many advantages for your health and well-being; a break from the stress of everyday life, quality time with friends and family, good times, life experiences and relaxing in beautiful places, to name but a few.

Here are a couple of quotes from famous lovers of Africa and its therapeutic qualities:

There is something about safari life that makes you forget all your sorrows and feel as if you had drunk half a bottle of champagne — bubbling over with heartfelt gratitude for being alive.”  Karen Blixen, author of Out of Africa.

I never knew a morning in Africa when I woke up that I was not happy.”  Ernest Hemingway.

Africa is known as the birthplace of human life and whether you’re on safari watching the ‘circle of life’ play out before you, enjoying the breath-taking vistas or ticking off a bucket list wish, Africa has it all and more.

Many great lodges offer amazing yoga retreats, horse riding, swimming, and walking safaris as well as hiking and biking, as exercise is great for the body and soul, especially when enjoyed in any of Africa’s most beautiful places, far from the madding crowd.
