Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National Park image

Situated virtually half way between Kampala and the game viewing areas of western Uganda, Lake Mburo National Park is the ideal stopping off point to break this long journey by road.

With a varied topography of marshland, acacia woodland, sweeping valleys, rock Kopjes and rolling hills, Lake Mburo National Park supports an impressive variety of flora and fauna, including some unique wildlife. Covering just 260 square kilometres, the park is one of Uganda’s smallest, but this makes for some easy and exciting explorations into its unusual and diverse terrains. The five lakes for which the park is also renowned create an area of abundant birdlife and some of Uganda’s finest scenery.

Did you know?

  • The Lake Mburo area boasts 357 species of bird.
  • You can find the rare Sitatunga, a very special antelope with narrow, elongated hooves which allow them to move freely on marshy land.
  • The extraordinary shoebill stork lives here.
  • Boat trips are a great way to explore the Lake.
  • You can horse ride from Mihingo Lodge.
  • It’s home to the last Uganda population of Eland which is Africa’s largest antelope.
  • Rothschild giraffes were translocated from Murchison falls and are thriving here.
