Saadani

Saadani image

Saadani is the only coastal National Park in East Africa. There is not as much game here as in other reserves in Tanzania but it is a brilliant place to wind down after your flight, combining gentle safari with relaxing on an Indian Ocean beach.

You will also have the rare opportunity to see Africa’s big game and bird life interacting with the sea. Saadani has a diverse population of birds and mammals including the rare Roosevelt sable, hippos, crocodiles and colobus monkeys.

Did you know?

  • Bottled-nosed dolphins are common off the Southern coast of the reserve.
  • Whales pass through the Zanzibar channel in October and November.
  • You can watch turtles nesting on the beach at Madete and maybe some hatchlings too.
  • The boat trips on the Wami river is great for seeing hippo, crocs and birding.

“We had a fantastic honeymoon in Botswana which, like the wedding, outlived our expectations.”
