Uganda : Kidepo Valley NP
Kidepo National Park is in North-Eastern Uganda, with the conical mountains of Sudan rising to the north and Kenya's Great Rift Valley to the east. The huge grassy plains are dotted with big rocky outcrops and flanked by steep jagged mountains, and dry river beds zig-zag across the park, fringed with borassus and sausage trees. There are also tracts of unexplored forest. Kidepo is great birding country and is home to lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, warthog and buffalo. It is the only park in Uganda where giraffe and zebra are found together.
Apoka is a small luxury lodge with 10 huge rooms surrounding a kopje, with great views and luxury locally crafted decor that reflects the rock and savannah that surround the camp. Each of the rooms has canvas walls, a large veranda and sitting area, and a spacious en-suite bathroom with a solar-powered showers and outdoor stone bathtub on a sheltered terrace from where you can look out on Africa. The main lodge has a swimming pool, and activities from the lodge include game-drives, guided walks which are highly recommended, night drives and visits to the local Karamajong community.
