Tanzania : Arusha
Arusha is the main tourist hub in northern Tanzania and where safaris of the Northern Circuit - the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire - or climbs up Kilimanjaro, usually start. You can fly into the city’s Kilimanjaro International Airport, and there are a few very nice places to stay before or after flights, or you can stay a few days and explore Arusha National Park, go walking, horse-riding or just relax, before venturing further afield.
Rivertrees Country Inn is a calm retreat just outside Arusha, set in several acres of tropical gardens and farmland along the Usa River. The old farmhouse has been restored and converted into the lodge's main sitting area, and combines colonial-style ambience and African country elegance with warm hospitality and good farm cooking. As well as three rooms in the main farmhouse, there are two river cottages with private decks, baths, a wood-burning stove and outdoor showers on the riverbank. The most recent addition is the River House, with two decadently furnished bedrooms with their own rock showers. The inn has easy access to Arusha National Park and, on clear days, has views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru.
