About Us

Who we are

Vicky StirlingMy name is Vicky Stirling and I set up and run Farside Africa. I spent about 9 years travelling and working in Africa and I decided to set up Farside Africa in 1996. After my last trip working in Uganda, I came back to the UK and started trading in 1998. Since then we have been going from strength to strength. We are based in Edinburgh in Scotland and we are the only Scottish company who specialise in tailor-made holidays and safaris to East and Southern Africa, the Indian Ocean Islands, Gabon and Morocco.

Susannah McMickingSusannah McMicking joined Farside Africa in June 2008 after seven years in journalism and public relations. She has a great love of Africa and has worked and travelled in Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa and Mozambique. She looks after the marketing as well as organising holidays.

About Farside Africa

At Farside Africa, we focus solely on holidays in Africa, as it is the only area of the world that we know really well. We have worked and lived there, managed lodges and travelled extensively throughout Africa. From this experience we have gained an important understanding of the people and how the tourist industry works and, most importantly, what you as the client expect from your holiday.

A tailor-made holiday is like a personal planning service. Critical to organising your holiday is to talk to you about where you want to go and what you want to see. We then put together some ideas, and give you independent, friendly and honest advice so you can fully understand the choices before you book.

Farside Africa is TTA and ATOL bonded, so your money is fully protected when you book a holiday with us.

About Farside Africa charities

At Farside Africa, we have worked and raised money for Save the Rhino International and visited a number of their projects throughout Africa. We have a close affiliation with the charity, which is why we want to promote it on our website, and we help fund its valuable projects in various ways.

We particularly encourage sustainable tourism, giving back to communities and to the land through various initiatives. We support a number of projects in Africa, including malaria awareness, AIDS and community projects, and will highlight the places where you can contribute towards these initiatives when we send you an itinerary.
